Godfrey Barnsley was quite the Renaissance man of his time, designing the property and gardens and furnishing it with antiques from all over the world. This story is very possbily Margaret Mitchell's inspiration for "Gone With the Wind." The author's personal life-long interest in this estate shows through the story.
